Bamb-u Watches Created From Sustainably Farmed Bamboo

If you are looking for a more environmentally friendly timepiece that isn’t the smartwatch, then you might be interested in a new range of bamboo watches called Bamb-u, that as the name suggests have been created using sustainably farmed bamboo.

The idea for the range of bamboo watches has been created by Bol Varga and Adam McLeod based in Australia and have been designed to provide a natural, beautiful and sustainable environmentally friendly timepiece.

Bamboo is alsoone of the few farmed plants that requires no pesticides, insecticides, fertilisers or any other chemicals, making it one of the most sustainable products around. Bamb-u is currently over on the Kickstarter crowdfunding website looking to raise $6,000 to get started. Its creators explain a little more about their vision and watch range.

“The concept of bamb-u was first created  by Bol Varga and Adam McLeod from Adelaide, Australia, in late 2013. Our mission was to design and manufacture high quality products that are both beautiful and sustainable. In a world full of so many disposable products, we saw a gap in the market for sunglasses and watches that look amazing while not hurting the environment.In late 2014, thanks to Kickstarter and support of people like yourself, we were able to launch our first line of sustainable, handcrafted bamb-u sunglasses made from 100% sustainably farmed bamboo.We know there are wooden watches on the market already. We know they claim to be sustainably made. But did you know the wood used to make those watches can take an average of 30 years to grow? When cut, that’s it, the tree is dead. It will take another 30 years to grow the next one. Bamboo can grow to a harvestable size in 2-4 years and when cut it doesn’t need replanting, the base is still alive and regenerates the new growth for the next harvest.”
